Hurricane Dorian made landfall in Florida, North Carolina, parts of the Eastern Seaboard, and Nova Scotia, but peaked as a Category 5 hurricane while hovering over the Bahamas for more than 2 days, leaving utter devastation in its wake. The Bahamian government is estimating that 3 out of 4 homes have been damaged or destroyed, with more than 70,000 people now homeless, thousands more missing, and a rising death toll. Bright Funds has established the Hurricane Dorian Disaster Response and Recovery Fund, which is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits providing on-the-ground disaster response in the region. We have selected organizations that are on the ground assisting with immediate relief needs, including rescue efforts, medical assistance, and providing food/water. Through a single donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations’ initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. The composition of nonprofits in this Fund is subject to change as we learn more about the most pressing needs of those affected on the ground.

The organizations included in the Fund address immediate measures to combat the current crisis and harm to indigenous communities, as well as long term initiatives to combat climate change and to advocate against pro-development policies that have relaxed the enforcement of laws against deforestation and have encouraged mining and farming across biological reserves and indigenous territories.

The Amazon is the largest rainforest in the world and vital to combating climate change. Nearly 73,000 wildfires have decimated the Amazon rainforest this year, a record amount for an ecosystem that produces a remarkable amount of Earth's oxygen. GitHub Created the Amazon Wildfires Relief Fund to assist with providing aid to help save the Amazon.

The Amazon is currently facing record-breaking wildfires with the number of fires in Brazil being 80% higher than last year. More than half are in the Amazon region, spelling disaster for the local environment and ecology. Two states in the Amazon have already declared state of emergency: Acre and Amazonas. Brazil's environmental agency IBAMA is hiring hundreds of temporary firefighters to help fight the fires.

In memory of Baylor's brother, Brandon Templeton Gray, Cisco SVS would like to help support the Raleigh Rescue Mission. Brandon struggled for many years with drug addiction. This addiction affected his ability to get a job, find housing and overall created a cycle of despair for him. Raleigh Rescue Mission has helped over 750,000 men, women, and children in NC struggling with addiction, trauma, family tragedy, homelessness, and health issues for nearly 60 years. They work to help break these cycles and empower people to rebuild their lives.

Habitat for Humanity - Brazil! The EIC program is doing their FIRST EVER global Give Back event! In 2019 a team of volunteers from CISCO will volunteer in Caruaru, Brazil 2019 to build water tanks for families living in poverty with no access to clean water. Many people living in the region of Caruaru work mainly in agriculture which provides families with wage that is far less than the minimum wage in Brazil. In the summer months there is a lack of rainfall in the region which results in plantations diminishing and, consequently, income that families make from cultivating their own crops are reduced. The lack of water access in Caruaru forces women, children, and the elderly to walk long distances several times a week in order to collect a decent supply of water for their homes. In many cases, the walk can take up to two hours each way. As such, it is very common for children in the region to drop out of school due to their time being taken up with transporting water to their home. Women who dedicate part of their day to fetching water also cannot work in stable jobs resulting in a lack of income for the household. The use of unclean water greatly increases the communities of Caruaru risk of contracting diseases and other health issues. This project aims to help families have access to safe, clean water through roof repairs and water tank construction.

Last year, the VMC SA team spent some time in Colombia at the Fundación Dones de Misericordia, which provides protection and education to children and a home to elderly people living in unsafe conditions. We came hoping we would be able to do some good, but not really knowing what to expect. When we left, most of us, as well as the children, were in tears and everybody was hugging. The children don't really get a lot of visitors and not surprisingly, it turned out that the only thing they really wanted from us was love. The foundation is a home for children and elderly people abandoned by their families. The old folks read to the children, providing the love they need and the children who read, read to the elderly, giving them the family they need.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, Beloslava Krasteva is one of the leading female chess players in Bulgaria. She is a Fide Master with outstanding achievements. Some of her accomplishments are: - 2 medals from European Youth Chess Championships in 2017 and 2018 - State champion for 2019 - State champion for 2020 - Third (final) norm for Woman Grandmaster Through her remarkable performance at the great chess forums, she reinforces Bulgaria's leading role in this outstanding sport. It is of great importance to her that she has the opportunity to play for Bulgaria despite the difficulties she faces. In order for her preparation to be complete, Beloslava has to play in strong and significant international tournaments. Each competition lasts about 10-12 days. During her stay, Beloslava needs to cover costs including: hotel, airplane tickets (where necessary), participation fees, training fee, food and coach expenses. The necessary funds on an annual basis are in the range 12 000 - 15 000 BGN. (6 x international competitions 1200 - 1500 BGN each) + participations on World and European Championships (from 4000 to 5000 BGN).
